The War on Smoking Has Been Ramped up – Why Not Try Hypnotherapy to Kick the Habit

Packets of cigarettes are nearly 14 per cent more expensive then they were last month, in another two years it will cost $20 to buy a pack, and from January 1 the same restrictions on regular cigarettes, such as smoking in public, will be put on their electric counterparts.
Brisbane clinical hypnotherapist and quit smoking specialist Luigi Pameijer said he welcomes the government’s dedication to help people beat the habit, but worries that the public don’t have the right tools to succeed.

 
“The patches, e-cigarettes, nicotine replacement therapy or prescription medication just doesn’t work in the long term and trying to quit smoking with no help at all is extremely difficult,” said Mr Pameijer
“But it’s surprisingly easy to quit smoking with advanced hypnotherapy,” he said.
“Most people are told that medication is the answer to their smoking addiction, but it’s not an effective method of kicking the habit.”
“Contrary to popular belief, smoking is not addictive, it’s just a strong and sometimes irresistible habit based on subconscious desires and associations.”
“People don’t need to take pills, put on patches or puff on e-cigarettes to quit – those methods actually have a very low success rate.”
“They don’t address the subconscious mind.”
“Without addressing the subconscious mind a person will be drawn back to smoking when under stress.”
“They will find they spend a great deal of energy resisting the cigarettes.”
“With hypnosis, those desires can be reduced at the source and much less energy is needed to stay a non-smoker.”
Mr Pameijer said hypnotherapy is the best way to quit smoking because of the following reasons:

  • Clarity and change: Hypnotherapy helps you get clear on why you want to be a non-smoker and then make the change for good. Can you no longer afford it with the tax hikes? Is there smoke related disease in your family?
  • Remove the triggers: Once the triggers that cause you to smoke are identified, new strategies can be used to avoid the triggers. Strategies can be far more effective in the long term, compared to masking the feelings of wanting to smoke by taking a pill or other drugs.
  • Learn alternative stress reduction techniques: Smoking is often a direct reaction to stress, and this stress can be managed in more effective ways.  
  • Remove of desire to smoke: The unconscious mind has the desire to smoke and positive memories about smoking.  Hypnotherapy can remove those desires and direct the attention to positive and healthy alternatives.
  • Hypnosis is effective at breaking the link to smoking: Smokers have made many links to smoking in their minds, over time, these links can be broken with hypnosis.

Mr Pameijer said he has an 88 per cent success rate helping people quit smoking in just one session. The other 12 per cent quit after a follow up session.
After trying gum and willpower for years to quit smoking, Brisbane grandmother of 67 Maria Goeman decided to give hypnotherapy a go.
“I went from smoking two packs a pack a day to quitting after my first hypnotherapy session,” said Ms Goeman.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“I didn’t believe that hypnotherapy was going to work, either – but was amazed
“In the last six months I’ve saved over $7,000 – I used to burn up in smoke about $280 a week on my ugly habit,” she said.
On September 1 the Federal Government raised the tobacco tax by 13.7 per cent. It is the second of four annual tax hikes aimed at reducing the number of smokers in Australia.
In the two years after the former Rudd government introduced the 25 per cent excise in 2010, consumption was reduced by 11 per cent.
A University of Iowa study found that on average hypnosis is more than three times as effective as nicotine replacement methods and 15 times as effective as trying to quit alone.
